Week 7 (10/23/16-10/29/16)

10/25 – Team Meeting

  • Design Options:
  • Fixed horizontal or manual adjustment
  • On roof or not
  • Inverters
  • Wall Charger or Generator for consecutive days
  • Round the 3.02 panels to 3 panels because rest of design has been over-engineered

10/25 – Meeting with Brian McKeon

  • Motor FLA (full load average), in-rush power generally 6 times FLA, up to 10-12
  • Most breakers can only handle 80% rated current for continuous load (3 hours)
  • Disconnect panels from inverter since panels can’t be shut off. Use quick disconnects rated for make-break
  • Might need grounding rod for grounding. Check if this applies to mobile/low power. Will need to at least ground to trailer chassis
  • DMV/DOT regulations apply when panels are attached to roofs
  • Can put panels on a sheetrock jack if they’re not attached to the roofs
  • #12 AWG wire is ~$0.07/ft versus #4 is $0.40/ft
  • Must have short circuit & fault current protection
  • Don’t need to protect each piece of equipment
  • Ask if inverter receptacles are horsepower rated
