Week 5 (10/9/16-10/15/16)

10/11 – Phonecall with Matt

  • Use South Glastonbury Transfer Station for weighing
  • Lights: 5 x 80 W bulbs on clamps with reflectors, only used in morning
  • Called transfer station to set up weighing: Bulky Waste on 1145 Tryon St. Call Phyllis back once we know when the HMF is available to bring trailers over for weighing

10/11 – Meeting with Dr. Bazzi

  • What exactly are his expectations
  • Not power everything during marathon, right?
  • Benefit in many smaller batteries vs. one big battery. System reliability
  • Controller that can also plug into wall and accept AC power, for charging batteries overnight during back to back events
  • Relay must also be able to block battery voltage
    • 5x80W lights = 400W
    • Powering a refrigerator (full size)
    • Need a clear image of what they need to power from solar so we have a clear known load for design. And prepare for worst case scenario.
    • SMA inverters, outback controller, batteries used: 2x 2000 lb, 10,000 A.hr
    • 24 and 48 V for batteries is based on controller
    • Charge controller being plugged into wall for events that occur within close proximity on the schedule.
  • We have to include aspects of Service Learning, Julia Yakovich, for office of Public Engagement (Group: Serviced Learning):
    • 10% of our grade is for serviced learning so address how we worked with community and the impacts
    • Google serviced learning
    • Help them spread knowledge of clean energy, no sound of diesel generators
    • We are helping HMF become close to NET0
    • We are the only group doing serviced learning.
