Our goal is to design, prototype, and test a Wireless Test Instrumentation System that can be mounted in the tail of a Sikorsky S-92 helicopter. The purpose of the system is to monitor the condition of tail pitch change bearings. The monitoring of the bearings allows for an assessment of when they need maintenance. A wireless system provides the advantage of being less susceptible to wear and loss in hostile environments than a slip-ring system. Wireless monitoring also eliminates the costly need of physically accessing the bearings to assess their condition.
