Week 5 – 9/28 to 10/2

Our main focus this week was on researching various sensors for navigation, object detection, and flame detection. We have discussing using a laser sensor for navigating the maze, however this would need to be mounted on a rotating platform in order to change its angle. The laser could also be used to detect the flame, but we decided we could use IR sensors to support our laser in narrowing in on the flame. We decided that photo resistors would not be accurate enough in detecting the flame due to the large amount of ambient light and how small the flame is relative to the room.

We also discussed mathematically modeling our robot using MatLab and Simulink in our controls design. We found a useful paper on a mathematical model for a similar robot online in our research.
