Week 3 – 9/14 to 9/18

This week we held our first team meeting to discuss our project, as well as our first meeting with our project advisor. The rules for the robot contest have not been posted yet, which gives little direction on what to expect for the contest and on what is expected of our robot.

We think that using a hybrid method of dead reckoning with sensor for correction would be a good way to navigate through the maze. The easiest method for extinguishing the fire would be to use an oscillating fan, but we want to try and use compressed gas. Compressed gas would not only be an option that could be used on a larger scale robot but also it would get us bonus points in the contest.

As a team we have agreed that we would like to be fine tuning our robot and working on programming it by the end of this semester.

Things we want to look into include: a place to store our test arena, potentially acquiring keys to work on our project over winter break, old versions of contest rules to get a feel for what it will entail, past robots that have been entered into the contest, and various microprocessors to use for our robot.
